Hopefully this will shed some insight on to the way I work and how my surroundings have a direct impact on some of the sounds you hear. Rather than start from the beginning like I originally planned on, I'll start with some newer releases to give you an idea what I'm talking about and actually give this page some content! Album - "Anxiety Flow" - "Displaced" - This tack includes recordings made at the Martinez train station in Martinez, CA in the winter of 2008. The recordings were made with a mini-disc recorder and a stereo condenser mic. I was on a long trip to visit my family in the bay area and this was the closest station to where they lived. The station was pretty old, not very big and held a strong smell of piss outside from the local bums. We had a long wait both times we were there and I ended up with a goldmine of recordings. More about those later though. Trains have played a huge role in my life since I was a teenager and you'll find that I record them often. - "Lone Fir Cemetery" - This track was recorded at the same place it was named after, directly across the street from my home when I was living in Portland, OR in the fall of 2008. It was recorded with a handheld panisonic cassette recorder, using a the on-board mic as well as a mini stereo mic. This was by far my favorite place in Portland and I went for long walks the with my wife there several times a week. On a side note, it was also the place she took the photos that became the cover of the N. album I released. This song is made almost entirely of field recordings of a day I brought some drumsticks with me and made use of all the metal and cement that makes up the oldest cemetery in Portland. | |
